Rise in Wirral seven-day Covid infection rate

But the upward trend can be considered minimal and does not yet suggest a surge in new cases is on its way.

According to Public Health England, in the seven days to April 26, Wirral had a weekly infection rate of 12.3 per 100,000 people, with 40 new confirmed cases.

That's up slightly from seven days earlier when 36 positive test results returned an infection rate of 11.1 per 100,00 people.

Despite the increase, all other areas of the Liverpool City Region have also seen rise in infections.

As a result, Wirral once again has the lowest weekly infection rate in the combined authority.

The figures, for the seven days to April 26, are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test, by specimen date.

Data for the most recent four days (April 27-30) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 140 (44%) have seen a rise in rates, 160 (51%) have seen a fall and 15 are unchanged.
