A 15-year-old cyclist has sadly died following a collision in Upton last night.
Emergency services were called to Manor Drive at 9.45pm, following reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist.
The cyclist, a 15-year-old boy named locally as Jack, was taken to hospital where he sadly died.
The car, described by police as a silver SUV, failed to stop at the scene.
A police investigation is underway.
Following enquiries, a 22-year-old man from Wirral was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident.
He remains in custody for questioning.
A second man – a 48-year-old from Birkenhead - has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road accident. He has been taken into custody to be interviewed.
A Merseyside Police statement read: "The victim’s family has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
"Road closures remain in place in the area and an investigation is underway.
