A specialist toy shop in Wallasey has opened its doors to customers after lockdown restrictions eased last week.

Alongside many other businesses, Sensory Toy Shop was unable to operate during lockdown, but it has since opened to the public.

The shop sells a ‘Toys Like Me’ range which consists of dolls and soft toys that are deaf, blind, have down’s syndrome, in wheelchairs or have no hair.

Leanne Eaton, shop owner and specialist teaching assistant in a hearing support base in Birkenhead, said: “It is really good to be open and have customers in the shop.

Wirral Globe:

“It’s been a bit of a struggle during lockdown but we’ve been lucky that we can offer click and collect services.

“It’s been really busy since opening but brilliant to see everyone who has been waiting for us to open.

“Even the kids have been excited for us!”

Wirral Globe:

The shop offers reflexology sessions, sensory rooms in an igloo on the shop floor as well as accredited BSL lessons.

Customers can also buy durable wooden toys, educational resources, braille books and toys, multi-sensory toys and a range of fidgets which help to aid concentration and ease anxiety.

Leanne said: “We sell everything we have on show so the kids can try them out before buying.

“We just try to be as inclusive as we can by selling a little bit of everything.

“The big thing for me is the Toys Like Me range. I think it’s really important for kids to be able to play with toys that represent them and even for other kids to play with toys that represent society and aren’t your generic barbie doll.”
