Birkenhead Medical Building has reached another significant milestone after completing over 50,000 Covid-19 vaccinations since the programme commenced on December 14.

The focus of the service has been to target patients registered with the 20 practices who are part of Arno Primary Care Alliance and North Coast Alliance Networks in Birkenhead and North Wallasey.

Dr John Mottram, Dr Salahuddin and Abhi Mantgani (joint clinical directors) coordinated the effort to vaccinate everyone within Groups 1-9, all care home and house bound residents plus extending the programme into the community to reach vulnerable people.

Dr Paul Cowan, Chair of Wirral CCG said “I want to add my congratulations on this significant achievement, the vaccination programme in Wirral has been a great success and will make a real difference in how we ease out of current restrictions and manage COVID-19 infections in future.

"I would encourage all people to take up the offer of a vaccine when their time comes.”

Birkenhead Medical Building's vaccination programme has been executed in partnership with Wirral Multicultural Organisation, Wirral Change, Tomorrows Women and Wirral Islamic Centre & Mosque.

They wish to thank the hard work, resilience, effort and determination of the vaccination teams, staff in all the practices involved, volunteers and council staff in successfully completing 50,000 vaccinations, who they say have worked extremely hard to achieve this while still doing their day-to-day normal work.

The Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock, has commended Birkenhead PCN for achieving highest performance in the North West Region.

Wallasey MP Dame Angela Eagle said: “I’d like to congratulate all the volunteers, clinical and admin teams at the Miriam Primary Care Group for their hard work to vaccinate 50,000 people against covid-19. This is an enormous effort and goes a long way to protecting our community in Wallasey and across the Wirral from this terrible disease.”

"The staff across the practices involved in this effort worked closely with Birkenhead’s many and diverse communities to reach the incredible target.

"I was delighted to visit the centre in Birkenhead and meet Dr Abhi Mantgani, the clinical lead for this fantastic achievement. I have put forward an Early Day Motion in Parliament saluting the hard work and of the vaccination team.”

Mrs Elizabeth Hodgson added: “As Chairman, and on behalf of the Patient Group, many congratulations on reaching fifty thousand vaccinations. This is a wonderful achievement, and we would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this effort.”

The service is now booking patients to have their second doses whilst at the same time extending the opportunity to vaccinate first dose to other groups.
