Pubs and restaurants across Wirral have welcomed hordes of customers into their outdoor settings this weekend- the first since lockdown restrictions were eased.

The hospitality industry has suffered badly throughout the coronavirus pandemic, but warm sunshine over the weekend brought large numbers of punters back to the beer pumps as people look to meet up again with friends and family.

One area of Wirral that benefitted today was Eastham Ferry, with almost every table taken outside the popular Tap pub and now reopened Eastham Ferry pub.

The area is a well-known meeting point for bikers and they didn't miss the opportunity to return to their favourite spot, soaking up the sun with a pint and crisps.

Hospitality bosses will be relieved to learn that the good weather will continue tomorrow with a full day of sunshine and temperatures reaching 17 degrees.

Sunny intervals are forecasted for the rest of the week, but Thursday looks like it could be another day of clear skies and a very pleasant temperature of 15 degrees.

Landlords and restaurant owners will be hoping that the feel-good weather continues for the next four weeks.

The government's roadmap says that pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues can seat customers indoors from no earlier than May 17.
