A closure on the M6 has now reopened in both directions, following a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a horse box.

The incident occurred between Junction 19 and Junction 18. Emergency services were called to the scene.

It caused delays of over 45 minutes and four miles of congestion southbound.

Cheshire Police have now managed to free the trapped horse from the vehicle, and it has been taken to an animal hospital for further checks.

The northbound carriageway is now back open and two lanes of the soundbound carriageway are also now set to reopen but lanes three and four remain closed.
