The man behind an innovate immune-boosting ice cube, created in memory of his friend who died of cancer, says everybody needs to know about it.

Two months ago, the Globe covered the story of Bromborough resident Dave Crosby, who had been receiving treatment for prostate cancer and attributed the partial success of his treatment programme to the significant benefits he received from taking two special ice cubes a day, provided for him by Merseyside Chef Danny McDonnell.

Other testimonials in Wirral a have since come forward, so we met the man behind Rival 7 and asked him what made him develop the concept in the first place.

In an exclusive interview, Danny told the Globe: "A friend of mine, Helen Devlin, was diagnosed with cancer and she went through chemotherapy. When we visited her in the hospital, it had nil by mouth written above the bed.

"I was confused so I challenged that doctor and he said, no, there's nothing she can have except for an ice cube. I went away and thought there must be something we can do, because when you see a loved one ill, you feel helpless.

"As a chef, it was instilled in me to try and come up with something to try and get nutrients to the body without going to the gut.

"I set about designing this ice cube with seven vital ingredients because we need seven vital organs connected to the blood system to work for us."

Danny, who has held several significant nutritional roles in the world of professional sport, found inspiration for gathering his ingredients that he needed such as Arrowroot and Turmeric by looking at a cave painting.

But he says the key to the potency of his natural concoction lies in keeping the root extracts, and the final product, in the dark at all times.

He said: "I make 33 litres to make one ice cube that potent, so that it dissolves quick on the tongue. I only mix it with 33% alkaline water. The rest is is dietary fibre. The body is made up of 75% water. It will dissolve in two minutes."

Danny tells us by allowing the ice cubes to dissolve on the tongue they are absorbed sublingually and directly enter the bloodstream much more effectively, creating cognition with the brain.

Sadly, the chef's friend Helen did not survive to see Danny's product come to fruition.

"Helen passed away before they were developed. I made them in her honour. I put it on the back of my book so she lives on forever."

Danny's product came to market a year and a half ago and during that time he says around 35 of his clients have 'rung the bell' up to now.

Alongside medical treatment programmes, the ice cubes have been used by people with a wide range of diseases and conditions, including stage four pancreatic cancers, primary and secondary cancers, fibromyalgia, MS and people with brain tumours, including children.

The Globe will be hearing the stories of more Wirral patients over the coming weeks who it is understood have all gained significant benefits from taking the ice cubes to help with a variety of serious health conditions, with remarkable results.

But Danny's standing today has a nutritional expert has not arrived via a conventional route.

He said: "I grew up in care. My dad died when I was eight and my mum left when I was two, so I had nobody. Trying to get in that door was hard.

"One of the main jobs I've done that I'm quite proud of was the London 2012 Olympics, when I was approached by Lord Coe and asked if I would head a team of chefs to make sure that the Olympics went according to plan and it was the most successful in 108 years."

Danny went on to do the Commonwealth Games and the Rio Olympics, but he has held several other high profile roles as well.

"I've done Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter - you've seen my food but you've never seen the chef!"

Danny said that he recently parted company with Liverpool FC to concentrate solely on his Revival 7 product, pushing it further into the public domain with the help of other chefs.

He said: "I need everybody to know what's going on. I wrote the recipe book at first, thinking people can copy the recipe but it's too complicated to find the ingredients.

"The people that have come to me have all got a great story. They've never once said it's not helping.

"It's being coming a long time this. The body can self heal.

"Given the vital nutrients and putting them into a composition that can be acutely dissolved into the body, without going to the gut and instantaneously going into the blood vessels, that's what's needed."
