Slight increase in Covid cases across Wirral

But the borough has seen a slight increase in cases over the last fews days of reliable data.

According to Public Health England, in the seven days to April 12, Wirral had a Covid weekly infection rate of 12 per 100,000 people, with 39 new confirmed cases.

That's down from a rate of 13.9 seven days earlier, when 45 people tested positive for the virus.

But the latest figure is an increase on the seven days to April 9, when there were only 29 confirmed new cases.

The figures, for the seven days to April 12, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Data for the most recent four days (April 13-16) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 135 (43%) have seen a rise in case rates, 167 (53%) have seen a fall and 13 are unchanged.
