NEW research has revealed that those in Wales have been turning to their fridge the most for comfort whilst continuing to spend more time at home over this last year.

A survey of 2,000 respondents conducted by online electricals retailer, AO.com, has revealed that those living in Wales have taken a staggering 2,555 trips to their fridge over the last year, an average of seven visits a day.

In fact, four in 10 (40%) admitted their fridge raiding habits have increased since spending more time at home due to lockdown, while over a quarter (27%) of those living in Wales confessed that looking in the fridge has become more of a habit since working from home.

A further 35% said they go to the fridge because they feel bored whilst at home.

When questioned on their favourite fridge snacks over half (53%) of residents declared cheese as their favourite snack, followed by 42% who admitted to chocolate being their preferred snack.

A further 38% said fizzy drinks are their snack of choice throughout the day, whilst 36% admitted to yogurt being a preferred snack, followed by 29% who prefer to eat some fruit.

Sophie Beckett Smith, large appliances expert at AO.com said: “Fridges are an integral part of the home and a statement appliance in many people’s kitchen. With more of us spending most of our time in the house, it’s no surprise we’re turning to include the fridge into our daily activities. Although I’m not sure if we should open the debate on if chocolate belongs in the fridge!”

Nina Spencer, mum of twins twice from family blog spencersarc.com and family Instagram @ninaaspencer, said: “As a family with two sets of twins our fridge is in constant use. We had to even buy a bigger one to fit meals, snacks, & drinks for us all. During the times we’ve been staying home our fridge has been raided more times than I can count with little mouths always hungry!”
