On March 29 we saw the first step into eased lockdown restrictions across the UK.

As part of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, groups of up to six people or two households can now meet up outdoors only for socially distanced gatherings.

With many people looking for places to walk and visit the Globe has prepared a list of 10 beauty spots you can visit in Wirral that will reinvigorate you.

1. Red rocks

Just a short distance from Hoylake and West Kirby the orange-coloured dunes are an idyllic place to wander around.

The sandy beach is popular with families and has a shallow bay with plenty of rock pools if you fancy getting your feet wet.

If you are one for bird watching, this beach has recorded over 200 different species of birds sited in the area.

2. Thurstaston beach

This sandy beach along the Dee Estuary is a popular destination due to its sunset views from the common clifftops. 

Visitors can also check out Wirral Country Park which overlooks the beach. It has picnic and BBQ areas, visitor centre, café and information staff on hand to answer any questions.

3. Birkenhead Park

Designed in the 1840s by landscape gardener Joseph Paxton, Birkenhead Park was the first park ever to be opened to the public.

The park boasts vast green spaces as well as two cricket clubs, fishing lakes and adventure playgrounds for children.

4. Hilbre island

If you enjoy spotting wildlife, then be sure to visit Hilbre Island.

These islands can be reached by foot when the tide is low and is a popular leisure activity.

The island is cut off from mainland by the tide for up to four hours out of every 12 so be sure to allow yourself enough time to leave Hilbre if you are planning on visiting.

During the summer months visitors have the opportunity to see grey seals swimming off-shore and twice a year a migration of birds come to visit the bird observatory on the island.

5. Port Sunlight River Park

This scenic riverside walk is located within walking distance of the model village of Port Sunlight and opened in 2014.

There are 28 hectares to enjoy as visitors can explore an array of wildlife, walkways, wildflowers and wetlands area.

Those who climb to the summit will be rewarded with far-reaching views across to Liverpool, Frodsham and even North Wales.

6. Bidston Hill

Bidston Hill is the highest point in Wirral and boasts panoramic views where visitors will be able to see Liverpool’s skyline from the windmill.

It’s the perfect location for a stroll whether through the surrounding woodland or grassy areas.

7. New Brighton beach

This popular beach offers four miles of golden sands for all to enjoy.

The beach is a great location to sit and watch boats sail in and out or to simply walk past on your afternoon stroll.

8. Wirral Way

Situated within Wirral Country Park this old railway track route goes from West Kirby to Hooton and offers fantastic views over the Dee Estuary and Wales.

Perfect if you fancy a cycle, run or even just a stroll.

9. Eastham Country Park

With 100 acres of woodland to explore there is plenty of opportunity for visitors to enjoy the wildlife and peaceful walkways of Eastham Country Park.

Visitors can collect a map from the visitor centre and take themselves on a self-guided walk before stopping for a BBQ or picnic overlooking the Mersey Estuary.

10. Wallasey beach

If you are a beach lover then taking a trip down to the golden sands of Wallasey beach will make for the perfect day out.

This popular destination has plenty of free car parking to cater for the large number of visitors.
