A Wirral charity shop that raises funds for disabled and terminally-ill children is ready to welcome shoppers back next week as lockdown eases.

The Newlife store in Moreton reopens on Monday, for the first time since lockdown three began on January 5.

It is one of many non-essential shops in England able to reopen in stage two of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown.

All money raised through Newlife’s stores goes towards providing specialist equipment and support to disabled and terminally ill children around the UK. During lockdown the charity has seen demand double for their unique emergency equipment loan service which aims to get specialist equipment to families in crisis anywhere in the UK within 72 hours.

The Newlife store on Hoylake Road in Moreton will be as safe as possible for all customers when it reopens with staff following all recommended Covid-19 safety and social distancing measures.

Store Manager Nina Barnes said: "We are so happy to be re-opening the store.

"We know our loyal customers are eager to be back in our stores and we are extremely pleased to be reopening.

"Keeping our staff and customers safe is our number one priority and we will be taking all measures to ensure this happens.

"For the time being, we will be operating in a limited capacity with reduced fixtures for access and will review this over the coming weeks.

"The last 12 months have been incredibly difficult for the charity.

"The stores are our main stream of income and that ceased overnight, at a time when disabled children and their families needed us more than ever and demand for some services even doubled.

"We have continued to operate our essential services throughout the pandemic."

Newlife, which celebrated its 30th birthday last month, has provided equipment to more than 25,000 children and spends £3.6million every year providing its FREE and vital services.

Its stores regularly attract shoppers from across the county searching for high street and designer clothes and accessories at bargain prices.

Stock is donated by 300 leading retailers and manufacturers from around the UK and Europe, including River Island, Primark and Amazon, and includes end of line surplus stock, faulty items and customer returns that would otherwise be destined for landfill.
