Covid case rate carries on decreasing in Wirral

According to Public Health England, in the seven days to February 18, the borough had a weekly infection rate of 117 per 100,000 people, with 379 new cases.

That's down from a rate of 146.9 for the previous seven days, when 476 people tested positive for the virus.

Of the 315 local areas in England, 43 (14%) have seen a rise in case rates, 267 (85%) have seen a fall and five are unchanged.

The figures, for the seven days to February 18, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Data for the most recent four days (February 19-22) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Wirral continues to have the lowest rate of infection across the whole Liverpool City Region, while St Helens has the seventh highest rate in the country.
