More than half a million people across Merseyside & Cheshire have now received a vaccination jab for Covid-19.

Latest figures from NHS England show that a total of 560,982 jabs had been administered across the two counties by February 7.

Of that combined figure, 531,840 were first dose jabs and a further 29,142 were for the second booster jab.

It means that over a quarter of Merseyside & Cheshire's estimated population of 2,040,921 has now received a Covid-19 vaccination dose, with nine in 10 people aged 70 and over having had their first jab.

The figures reported today include vaccinations administered in hospital hubs, local vaccination service sites (such as GP practices) and vaccination centres, with the Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) of Merseyside and Cheshire presented as a combined figure.

The weekly data is supplied by the National Immunisation Management Service (NIMS), which is the System of Record for the NHS COVID-19 vaccination programme in England.

More than 1.5million vaccination jabs have been administered across the North West so far, with 1,437,750 first doses and 66,661 booster jabs.

Sir Elton John and Sir Michael Caine have joined forces in a new video to encourage people to get vaccinated against coronavirus.

The showbiz giants, who are both in their 70s and 80s and have been vaccinated by the NHS, recorded the comic 90 second clip to show others that getting the life-saving jab is easy and safe.

Sir Elton John said: “I wanted to take part in this film to help show people the benefits of getting vaccinated and how it helps protect ourselves and the people we love.

“So, I hope we can all come together and do our bit in the fight against this wretched disease.”

The film shows Sir Elton, 73, ‘auditioning’ for an advert promoting the jab.

The singer says: “The more people in society who get vaccinated, the more chance there is of eradicating the national Covid pandemic

“It’s really important to know that the vaccines have all been through and met the necessary safety and quality standards.”

Sir Elton then pretends to get the jab before bursting in to his 1983 hit I’m Still Standing.

The unimpressed ‘director’ tells him “thanks Elton we will let you know” to which he replies: “Well at this short notice you won’t find anyone bigger”.

More than 10 million people in England have already been vaccinated and the NHS is now asking anyone aged 70 or over who has not yet been vaccinated to come forward to be protected.
