Children’s charity, Just4Children, is hoping to raise £15,000 to help a two-year-old girl get specialist equipment and therapy needed to help with her disability.

Sophie Jones, from Tranmere, was diagnosed with evolving quadriplegic cerebral palsy, a condition which severely affects movement and speech.

Sophie arrived 10 weeks early via emergency C-section where her mother Kate Jones was told she had developed a bleed on the brain which would affect her physical development.

Kate said: “Sophie has not reached any of milestones and her development age is still three months old.

“The fundraising is crucial to us to be able to access the best therapies and equipment available, which we believe will unlock Sophie’s full potential.”

Sophie is unable to support her head fully and cannot sit up without support from someone. She also struggles with stiff limbs and cannot support herself in a crawling position.

Kate said: “Sophie is all there cognitively and we get lots of beautiful smiles and laughs from her which is amazing, but all we hope for is to be able to support her physical development to be able to reach all these milestones and hopefully in the future she will be able to walk and talk.

Since September, Sophie has been attending Birkenhead based children’s wellness centre, Blue Skies Ahead, which Kate says has been a lifeline.

She said: “We attend regular sessions and the improvements we have seen from the therapies have been amazing. It is so important to us to be able to give Sophie the ability to lead a life as independently as she can.

“However, to push forward we need regular access to these services and equipment which unfortunately comes at a cost.

“We have set up the Just4Children page and hopefully with support from friends, family and the local community we can help Sophie achieve her milestones and give her the chance in life she deserves.”

So far, they have managed to raise £1,385 out of their £15,000 target. You can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/sophiesstory
