A year six class from a Birkenhead primary school are collectively running 1000 miles to raise money for mental health charity Wirral Mind.

Class 6J at Mersey Park Primary School have managed to raise £1,200 so far and are hoping to complete the 1000 miles before the Christmas break.

The students have been supported by their teacher, Miss Jones, who has been the driving force behind the fund raising on their Just Giving page.

Miss Jones said: "Year 6 wanted to improve their fitness, raise some money for charity and have something special to remember 2020 by.

"We decided to raise money for Wirral Mind because it is a charity that is close to our hearts.

"We set out to raise £100 but we have now raised over £1,000 and every child can now run a mile without stopping with a smile on their faces."

To recgonise her classes achievement and efforts Miss Jones wrote her students a poem, titled The kids who ran ‘til Christmas which can be read below.

Your teacher had a vision,

You know, the type she does,

She had that look of wonder,

Who knew what that meant for us?

You took upon her challenge,

You faced it all like champs,

And when she stopped for a little rave,

Who knew- we loved a dance?

You all became her hero,

To her friends and fam, she told,

The story of her class who ran,

This tale will never get old.

Just know when this is over,

she will never, ever forget,

The kids who ran til Christmas,

When she said, on your marks, get set.

She’s proud of every one of you,

Of those who scowled at first,

For those who ran on days that were bad,

On the days you felt your worst.

I’ve thanked you over and over,

And made lots of hearts from hands,

I’ve even shed a little tear,

That you joined me in my plans.

Please think of our three reasons,

When life gives you a test,

I will be proud of you forever,

To me, you are the best.
