A much-loved hospice has launched its Christmas tree collection campaign to help raise money this January.

Wirral Hospice St John’s will be collecting real used Christmas trees from outside people’s homes and businesses after the festive season.

The Christmas tree collection campaign is now in its eighth year with funds raised going towards the hospice and other small local charities.

Elaine Connell, Wirral Hospice St John’s fundraising officer, said: “People from all over Wirral really get behind our Christmas tree collection campaign. We know it’s a lot of fun for our hardy volunteers who come back year after year.”

Volunteers in vans will be collecting trees from across Wirral and driving them to drop off sites for chipping.

The chipped trees will be recycled and spread around the community for local farms and paddocks to use.

People can leave their trees in an accessible spot outside their house or business and within a week their tree will be collected by volunteers.

Every Wirral postcode is eligible to register and people can book for their tree to be collected until 5pm Sunday, January 10.

The suggested donation relating to the size of each tree is £7 under 5ft, £8 under 6ft, £10 under 7ft and £15 over 7ft. Volunteers will have masks, gloves and hand sanitiser and with more than nine days after 12th night before collection, the trees will be Covid-safe to remove.

Elaine added: “We’re extremely grateful to everyone who supports Wirral Hospice St John’s, including all those who give up their valuable time and the use of their vehicles to help with the collections and, of course, all those people who donate their Christmas trees."
