PEOPLE who were affected by the temporary closure of post offices across Wirral are being urged to give their views to a national inquiry.

Set up in the wake of the 'Horizon' IT failure, which saw some post office managers wrongly prosecuted, the inquiry will look at what went wrong in relation to Horizon and ensure that there is a public summary of the failings that occurred at Post Office Ltd so that they should never be repeated.

The Inquiry wants to hear from individuals, groups and organisations affected by the failings which occurred at Post Office Limited (POL) in relation to the Horizon IT system.

This might include, but is not limited to, current or previous postmasters, Post Office employees, Fujitsu Services Limited and government.

One of the post office branches forced to close was Grove Road Post Office in Wallasey Village.

In December 2018, more than 1,000 residents in Wallasey backed a petition by councillors Paul Hayes, Ian Lewis and Lesley Rennie calling on Post Office Ltd to act.

Commenting on the public inquiry, Cllr Hayes said: "Post Office staff have been treated disgracefully and those senior directors who ignored the warning signs of what was happening in local post offices should hang their heads in shame at the distress caused.

"More than 1,000 people backed our campaign two years ago.

"Many of those people have been severely impacted by the closure of the Grove Road Post Office and I very much hope they will send their views to the inquiry."

Residents affected by the closure of post offices can give their views by email to CallforEvidence@postofficehorizoninquiry.org.uk or by post to: Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry, 1 Victoria Street, Westminster, London SW1H 0ET.
