Wirral's coronavirus weekly infection rate has more than halved in a week, taking it down to its lowest level since September 7.

According to latest figures from Public Health England, in the seven days to November 26, the borough's weekly infection rate has fallen to 68.2 per 100,00 people, with 221 new cases.
That has plummeted from seven days earlier, when 475 positive test results put the rate at 146.6.

As the Liverpool City Region prepares to move into Tier 2 alert status from tomorrow, when the national lockdown is lifted at midnight, the trend is replicated across the combined authority.

Liverpool, St Helens, Sefton, Knowsley and Halton have all brought their new case rates down significantly, but none are as low as Wirral's, who returned the 39th lowest infection rate in the country.

A majority of areas in England (294 out of 315) have seen a fall in case rates.

England's weekly case rate list in full

The list has been calculated by the PA news agency, based on Public Health England data published on November 30 on the Government’s coronavirus dashboard.

The figures, for the seven days to November 26, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent four days (November 27-30) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

From left to right, it reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to November 26; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to November 26; rate of new cases in the seven days to November 19; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to November 19.
