A brand new Wirral sports centre is opening three football pitches this week.

On Wednesday, the three 4G pitches will be the first facilities to open at Activity for All’s centre on Arrowe Commercial Park near Upton.

The opening of the football pitches is just the start of the company’s project, with the construction of a soft play area, high ropes course and climbing walls to begin this week.

The centre will also feature a multi-use studio hosting yoga, dance and fitness classes, among other things.

The site’s full opening is set for January.

Starting this week, the Activity for All centre is hosting Tots Training and a football skills academy for children aged between 18 months and 11-years-old.

Classes will take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with free taster sessions taking place on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6.

In the taster sessions, classes will last for 45 minutes and will be split into four age groups.

A children’s Christmas holiday camp starts on December 21 and runs until December 23 with wrap around care available for parents working after schools have broken up.

As well as this, the centre plans to run an after school club for children during term time, starting in January.

Mike Smethurst, director of Activity for All, said he was proud of the work the team had done to get the pitches open despite the pandemic.

The company has delivered similar community facilities elsewhere in the North West and North Wales. They have sports centres in Bootle and Holywell.

Activity for All was founded in 2004 as a Merseyside-based community interest organisation with the sole objective of increasing physical activity across all age groups.

In recent years they have run activities for over 10,000 children and adults every week across Merseyside and have worked closely with over 300 schools and 150 businesses, as well as NHS trusts, colleges and other community groups.
