WIRRAL'S leisure facilities are getting ready to welcome back gym-goers and fitness fans when national lockdown ends next week.

As the borough moves into Tier 2 restrictions, the use of pools, gyms, outdoor facilities as well as the return of exercise classes and the use of outdoor football pitches will be available from next Thursday (December 3).

All four municipal golf courses, West Kirby Marine Lake and Wirral Sailing Centre will also reopen from Thursday too.

A round up of what’s available at each Wirral Leisure site from Thursday is as follows:

  • West Kirby Concourse: Pool, gym and exercise classes
  • Europa: Pool (Six lane competition pool – the fun pool remains closed)
  • Guinea Gap Leisure Centre: Pool, gym and outdoor facilities (small-sided pitches)
  • Bidston Tennis Centre: Gym, indoor tennis, exercise classes and outdoor facilities (3G pitch, small-sided pitches, tennis)
  • Leasowe: Outdoor facilities (3G pitch)

Sessions and classes can be booked at any of these sites by phoning 0151 606 2010 from Tuesday (December 1).

Cllr Tom Anderson, chair of Wirral's tourism, communities, culture and Leisure committee, said: "For many, exercise is a way to maintain physical and mental health.

"Being able to reopen gyms and other leisure facilities means that people can get back into enjoying the sports and activities they’ve missed."

Outdoor facilities are set to re-open to the public at The Oval during the week of December 14.

Some centres will remain closed for leisure in the short-term as they are used in the response to the pandemic.

This includes the indoor leisure facilities at Leasowe, The Oval and Woodchurch. For more information on these centres, please visit Wirral View.

All leisure facilities that reopen on 3 December will continue to operate by booking only to make sure the number of people using the facilities remains at safe levels – all customers must book and pay for their session before they arrive at the centre.

Bookings can be made by phoning 0151 606 2010 from Tuesday 1 December. More information about bookings can be found on www.wirralleisure.co.uk

Strict safety measures will also be in place to keep leisure users and gym-goers as safe as possible.

Information about the safety measures in place can be found on the Wirral Leisure website and all users must read this in full before arriving for a session.

Anyone wanting to reinstate an Invigor8 membership should email bookingsandinformation@wirral.gov.uk or, from Tuesday 1 December, call the central team on 0151 606 2010.

The leisure team will try to complete membership reinstatements as soon as possible but this could take up to 3-5 working days depending on demand.

Information for new members can be found on the Wirral Leisure website.
