Grassroots sport will be allowed to resume outdoors in Wirral and across the country from December 2, according to reports.

All amateur sporting activity was brought to a halt on November 5 when England was put into a second coronavirus lockdown by the Government.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will address the House of Commons this afternoon, with plans to ease restrictions from a week on Wednesday (December 2) and according to Sky Sports News, this will include the reintroduction of outdoors sports.

It is understood that outdoor sport will be permitted for all ages and in all areas of the country, including those placed in the most high risk category of the Government's Covid-19 tier system.

The news will be a welcome boost for Wirral's thriving junior football scene, with the Liverpool City Region having been part of Tier 3 (very high risk) before the second lockdown started.

However, the combined authority has high hopes that the region will be reclassified in a lower tier by December 2, following a reduction in Covid infection rates and the mass testing programme in the City of Liverpool.

It is believed that gyms will also be able to reopen, but this has yet to be confirmed.
