NINE Wirral schools have made it onto the shortlist for this year's prestigious Educate Awards.
The honours recognise the work of schools and colleges across Merseyside and Cheshire which are delivering outstanding education and helping students achieve their full potential.
Due to pandemic, the ceremony has been postponed until further notice but the team behind the event are keen to continue and raise spirits within in the education sector.
The following Wirral schools have been shortlisted:
- Bedford Drive Primary School for 'outstanding commitment to STEM'
- Heswall Primary School for 'outstanding commitment to the environment'
- Leasowe Primary School for 'most inspirational alternative provision by a school' and 'most inspirational primary school'
- Progress Schools - Hamilton Square for the 'careers and enterprise' award
- Progress Schools - Wirral for 'community partnership award'
- Ridgeway High School for 'outstanding commitment to sport in secondary school'
- Riverside Primary School for 'outstanding arts in primary school category'. Teacher Mary Lyons, has been shortlisted for 'teacher of the year'.
- The Mosslands School has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Commitment to STEM category
- Wirral WRAP has been shortlisted in the Most Inspirational Alternative Provision by a School category
On Leasowe Primary School's place on the shortlist, headteacher Katy Bergman said: "I am incredibly proud and humbled to have been shortlisted for these prestigious awards.
"During the last four years I have been lucky enough to work in a school that is fully community focused and inclusive.
"I am inspired daily by incredibly supportive parents,my dedicated sacrificial staff but most importantly my vibrant ,caring loving children.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Leasowe Primary School families as together we have built something pretty special."
The awards, in partnership with Copyrite Systems and Ricoh, is in its ninth year and is the largest education awards in the North West.
Despite the difficult times, a record amount of schools and colleges from around the region entered one or more of the 21 categories.
Since launching in Liverpool in 2012, the awards has grown rapidly, recognising schools and colleges right across the Liverpool City Region, Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
Kim O’Brien, founder of the Educate Awards, said: “A huge well done to all the Wirral schools shortlisted in the Educate Awards 2020!
“It has been a really tough year for everyone and so we felt it was more important than ever to shine a spotlight on the heroes of the education sector and all the hard work that goes on in schools and colleges around the North West.
Kim added: “The calibre of entries we received were incredibly strong - our judges will really have their work cut out when deciding on the winners!”
