A tea room in Wallasey Village is making sure elderly people across the Wirral don’t go without this Christmas.

Fleur Ashley Tea Room & Cake Studio are taking part in Home Instead’s ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ for the third year running.

Daughter Kelly McWilliam and her mum, Amie Jones, run the tea room and have been helping to collect Christmas gifts which will be distributed out to elderly people who wouldn’t usually receive anything on Christmas day.

Kelly said: “You just buy your present and drop it back here in our drop off box unwrapped, so it’s completely safe and socially distanced. Then Home Instead will collect it, wrap it up and make sure that person gets it delivered.

"There are a lot of senior clients that are in need of a Santa because they don’t get anything for Christmas. Not even a Christmas card.”

Kelly and Amie are encouraging anyone to drop by and collect a tag. The tag has the person’s name who will be receiving the gift and then an idea of what they would like. People are also being encouraged to write a Christmas card to go alongside the gift.

Kelly said: “All our customers have been getting involved, they’re delighted that we’re doing it again. I think in light of these times where people have been so alone it’s even more vital.

"The campaign really does work and it’s so lovely.”

Owner of Fleur Ashley, Amie Jones said: “It gives me enjoyment. It doesn’t cost a lot of money to make somebody happy. I get a great deal of joy out of little bits of kindness.

“I think it’s lovely to help people, it’s a natural thing for me. It’s just such a shame that so many people are so desperate. It’s really heart breaking.”

Santa to a Senior is running right up to Christmas so if you or anyone you know would like to donate a gift please drop it off at Fleur Ashley Tea Room & Cake Studio.
