A CHRISTMAS Day delivery service for local care leavers aged between 18-25 will still go ahead despite Covid-19.

The Christmas Dinners is an annual project organised entirely by an independent group of volunteers which provides a Christmas Day for care leavers.

The annual project was founded by poet Lemn Sissay MBE who spent most of his childhood in care. He recognised that young people who had been raised in care often lacked support once they left the care system aged 18.

The event now runs nationally with many other Christmas Day dinners taking place across the UK.

Councillor Nicole Meardon, who represents the Sutton Villages ward in Ellesmere Port said: β€œIt's fantastic to be supporting this group of young people again.

"Although the pandemic has meant that we can't celebrate the festivities as normal, we can still try to make Christmas as special as possible and create a day to remember."

Although there will be no sit-down meals this year due to the pandemic, Action Transport Theatre charity will be delivering food hampers and presents on Christmas Day to care leavers to ensure they have a special day.
