A FURTHER 120 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the Wirral borough in 24 hours.

The latest figures from Public Health England cover the 24-hour period up to 9am today, November 1.

Following 120 cases of Covid-19 in that time across Wirral, the borough’s total now stands at 8,165 cases since the pandemic began.

Today's figure is higher than the 90 new cases confirmed across the borough on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Cheshire West – including Ellesmere Port and Neston – saw 133 new Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours up to 9am today, while in Liverpool there were 204 confirmed cases.

Across the UK, 23,254 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed today.

It comes as a national lockdown is just four days away, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson announcing the move on Saturday night.

He said: "We will get through this but we must act now to contain this autumn’s surge.

“Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

Meanwhile, there have been no coronavirus deaths reported by Wirral NHS hospitals today, meaning the trust’s toll remains at 294.
