ROCK Ferry dance group, The Cokers Kickers, have completed their 200th day of line dancing in the streets since it first formed in April.

Residents from The Cokers originally formed the group to help combat the feelings of isolation the Covid-19 enforced lock down brought to local residents.

The Cokers Kickers have been dancing in the street every day to help boost community spirit and entertain local residents during Covid-19.

Street resident and 'Cokers Kicker' John Davies told the Globe: "It's certainly held our little community together and provided some exercise, companionship and a little bit of fun.

"It is what has helped us get through these dark times especially as some of us live alone."

The senior citizens have been dancing away in rain and shine while other residents watch and enjoy from their windows or front paths.

The Kickers have received praise from people who have spotted them dancing in the street with one gentlemen presenting them with a tin of chocolates and thanking them for bringing a "little bit of happiness into a despairing world".

John said: "Loneliness and isolation can be contributing factors in mental health issues and anything we can do to address this can only be encouraged.

"We may be elderly but, by gum, we're tough!"

All dancing has followed the social distancing rules with the help of group teacher, Barbara, who has been organising the sessions and giving the Kickers new routines to learn.

However, now with tighter restrictions, shorter days, and the onset of winter weather The Cokers Kickers have had to hang up their dancing shoes and say goodbye to the streets they spent so many hours dancing on.

John said: "At least we've laid to rest that old myth, 'You can't teach an old dog new tricks,' well new dances, anyway.

"Yes, there's still life left in us old dogs and come the day when restrictions are lifted and spring comes around the 'Coker’s Kickers' will dance again!"
