SIX people have been fined after police raided a house party in Runcorn over the weekend.

Officers were called out to Grangeway on Saturday evening after receiving reports of loud music in one of the properties.

On arrival, they discovered that the homeowner had set up music decks in the living room and was hosting five others from different households.

Each attendant told officers they knew about the coronavirus rules in place, but that did not stop them from attending.

Halton is in the Liverpool City Region, which is under tier 3 ‘very high risk’ restrictions, and therefore residents are prohibited from socialising with anybody they do not live with in any indoor setting.

All six were fined £200 each for what police say was a ‘blatant breach’ of coronavirus rules.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police added: “Over the weekend it has been really encouraging to see that the majority of residents across Cheshire have been sticking to the rules and are doing all they can to slow the spread of Covid-19.

“Disappointingly, there are a small number of people who are breaching them.

“We do not want to stop you from enjoying yourselves, but we really need you to stick to the rules so that we can help reduce the spread of the virus.

“Whenever there is a breach, we always engage, explain and encourage people to follow the rules, but sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we have to enforce.”
