A NEW shop is to be built alongside one of Warrington's busiest roads.

Plans have been approved for the unit on Knutsford Road in Latchford, near to the Co-Op and American Golf units.

The land is currently used for informal car parking and a hand car wash site.

Under the new scheme, which was approved by council planners this week, the existing office building will be retained and the new shop built.

Planning document said: "The design intends to provide a purpose build retail outlet supplying groceries and other day-to-day items to the local community while providing sympathetic treatment to the boundaries.

"The proposal includes a new pedestrian access route through the site from Slater Street to Knutsford Road."

There are no details yet on who will run the shop.

Some neighbours on Slater Street had objected to the plans.

They were worried about parking, where rubbish would be stored and where the building would go on the land.
