FIREFIGHTERS have spent the night tackling a huge blaze involving around ten tonnes of bailed hay on the outskirts of Chester.

A crew from Chester were called to the fire on Mannings Lane, Hoole, shortly after 11.05pm yesterday (October 19).

They initially dealt with the incident before a crew from Ellesmere Port took over at 4am to continue tackling the flames. They remain at the scene.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shortly after 11pm firefighters from Chester were dispatched to reports of a large fire in the open on Mannings Lane, Hoole.

"On arrival at the scene the crews discovered a fire involving around 10 tonnes of bailed hay.

"Firefighters worked throughout the night to tackle the fire, using a main jet and a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

"At around 4am firefighters from Ellesmere Port were dispatched to the incident to take over the team Chester.

"The crew are continuing to use a main jet to extinguish the fire."
