WARRINGTON Borough Council has praised the conviction of a fly-tipper who collected residents rubbish for a fee and dumped it in a public park.

Earlier this week, the Warrington Guardian reported on the sentencing of Dayle Curran, of Ashley Close in Grappenhall, who dumped a TV stand, mirror and other items on Bennetts Recreation Ground in Padgate.

The council’s environmental crime team were able to trace two fly-tipping incidents back to the 31-year-old after he responded to requests from members of the public on Facebook, took their waste for a fee and brazenly dumped it.

Curran pleaded guilty at Warrington Magistrates Court last week and was found guilty of three offences of fly-tipping, illegally transporting controlled waste and a failure of a duty of care.

Warrington Guardian:

He expressed regret for his actions and stated that he would not do it again, but this did not stop magistrates from fining him a total of £1,865.86, which included clearing costs at Bennetts Rec.

This is the latest of a number of actions that the council has taken against fly-tippers, with 12 fines being issued for fly-tipping related offences within the past month.

Cllr Judith Guthrie said: “This is another successful conviction of a fly tipping offence in Warrington, and one which shows that we hold fly tippers accountable for their actions.

“The number of fines issued for fly tipping offences should be a serious deterrent to anybody considering illegally disposing of their rubbish.

“I would remind people that they must ensure anyone who takes their waste is authorised and has a permit to do so.

“Do not use social media to find people to take waste away without first checking that they are authorised to take it.

“Always request a transfer note with the details of what is being taken and who is taking it, as if it ends up fly tipped, it could be you that ends up in trouble."
