A FURTHER 109 confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in Cheshire West and Chester in the latest 24-hour reporting period, according to Government data.

As of 4.01pm today (October 13) the total number of cases for the borough since the start of the pandemic is 3,823.

In yesterday's Government update there were 108 additional cases confirmed.

The weekly infection rate for Cheshire West and Chester, up to October 10, stands at 181.3 (622 cases) per 100,000.

The borough was yesterday placed in 'tier two' of the Government's new lockdown restrictions for England, which could come into force tomorrow.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's proposed three-tiered system of local 'COVID Alert Levels' is being debated and voted on in the House of Commons today.

He confirmed yesterday that the levels will be set at medium, high, and very high. Cheshire West and Chester has been put in the high level, also known as tier two.

Across the UK, there were 17,234 further cases of coronavirus recorded in the latest 24-hour reporting period, taking the total number to 634,920 since the start of the pandemic.

England's 24-hour increase in cases was 14,310, taking its total to 540,396.

Meanwhile, the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has recorded an additional death of a patient testing positive for coronavirus.

NHS England data released this afternoon shows that the death sadly occurred on October 10.

The trust, which covers both the Chester and Ellesmere Port hospital sites, has now registered three deaths so far this month, having not previously recorded one since July.
