TWO musicians who took full advantage of lockdown by getting together to record a debut album have released their first single in aid of Wirral Foodbanks.

Without regular live gigs to keep them occupied, many looked for alternative ways to keep their creativity alive.

Born of this enforced hiatus in the local music scene, a new 'supergroup' was formed in April featuring Bebington-based singer/songwriter Dean Johnson and Alistair 'Aggi' Clynch, regarded as "the area's finest guitarist".

Their debut album was completed in isolation, with Dean writing and recording the basic tracks from his garden shed, and 'Aggi' adding guitar wizardry and three-octave backing vocals via his basement man-cave in Wallasey.

They have already picked up a record deal via the Finmusic label run by Mal Homes of OMD for their album entitled Johnson/Clynch.

Their debut single, entitled Rollin Home is available this week via Mal Holmes’s (OMD) Fin Music label.

Dean told the Globe: "The song is a rustic homage to the late Ronnie Lane of Small Faces/Faces fame, and received its world premiere play recently on Radio Wirral from presenter Gary Ridden.

"Profits from the single are being donated to Wirral food banks, which are more important than ever due to the new restrictions imposed locally."

Dean added that the duo have no plans for live shows at the moment but promise once things are safe again, they will stage a very special performance at a major local venue.

Dean was originally discovered by Chris Difford of Squeeze fame, and went on to record with Wet Wet Wet, and tour with the likes of Bryan Ferry and The Beach Boys.

'Aggi' is a stalwart of the local pub rock scene, fronting the ever popular Bilko's Privates, as well as appearing in theatre shows alongside Slade and other giants of the glam rock era.

Dean and Aggi are giving away five signed copies of their debut CD Rollin Home single to Wirral Globe readers.
