A SEARCH for weapons in Rhyl has been conducted as part of a police operation to combat criminal gangs intent on causing violence.

Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team and Denbighshire County Council along with a team of specially trained search officers carried out operation ‘Blue Steel’ on Thursday, September 24, mainly around the Abbey Street area of Rhyl, with searches in the alley ways, roads and green areas.

PC Rebecca Evans said: “We have carried out Operation Blue Steel searching open areas for discarded or hidden weapons that could be used by criminal gangs or others intent on inflicting serious injury or even death.

"The operation continues so we can make Denbighshire Coastal and Abergele a safe place to live and visit.”

There were 104 recorded occurrences involving a knife or bladed weapons in Rhyl between March 2019 and February 2020.

Six knives have been located in the Abbey Street area during the past month.

PC Evans added: “There have been incidents recently where knives and weapons have been recovered.

"We are determined to tackle this problem, but we do need the help and support of the public during this ongoing operation.”
