HALTON now has the fourth highest rate of new coronavirus cases in England.

The borough was reported as having the sixth highest rate yesterday, Tuesday, but this rate has climbed further up the list after a rise in the number of new cases.

In the seven days up to September 19, there were 216 new cases recorded in Halton – a rise of 17 from the week up to September 18 and more than double the 88 recorded in the week up to September 12.

As a result, the borough’s rate of new cases has risen to 166.9 per 100,000 people, which is only lower than Bolton, Hyndburn and Preston.
