Every week, the Globe brings you our Dog of the Week, in association with the Dogs Trust.

Name:  Paddy

Breed:  Akita

Age: 8

Paddy is a typical Akita so he can be a little aloof at times, but whilst he has been at Dogs Trust Merseyside the team have definitely seen a playful side to this big boy.

He thoroughly enjoys going out for walks and is always excited to see people, so when it comes to his new home, he’d like to be the only dog in the home so he can lap up all the love from his two-legged friends.

One of Paddy’s loves in life is food and although he loves his treats, when it comes to enjoying them or having one as a reward, he is a very polite, gentle boy.

Georgina Lowery, Manager at Dogs Trust Merseyside, says: “Paddy is a stunning dog who always greets us with a bark of welcome when it’s time for his walks.

“He is big and strong so he will need owners who can handle a larger dog and he needs a home without children. He is happy to chill out on his own for a few hours once he’s enjoyed a nice walk and in the right home, he will make an ideal canine companion.”

The rehoming centres are not open for public browsing but you can still make an appointment to adopt or bring a dog in.

New processes have been set up, which include social distancing measures to help keep staff and visitors safe.

Dogs Trust estimates that up to 40,000 more dogs could be at risk of abandonment in the fallout of the coronavirus crisis.

If you would like to help change the course of events and help the trust continue to be there for more dogs and their owners when they need them, please give what you can by visiting www.dogstrust.org.uk/changethetale
