TRANMERE Rovers have signed striker James Vaughan on a two-year contract this afternoon.

The 32-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Prenton Park, scoring three goals in his the club's last four matches of the 2019/20 season.

In total, Vaughan scored 14 goals last term for both Tranmere and Bradford City, and will provide another option for manager Mike Jackson in attack.

Vaughan, who is the youngest ever goal scorer in the Premier League, has made more than 350 career appearances, with Everton, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Derby County all on his CV.

He said: "I am really happy to be a Tranmere Rovers player.

"When I signed on loan at the beginning of the year, the bigger picture was to join on a permanent contract.

"Since lockdown, we have been working really hard to make it happen and I can’t wait to join up with the team and get going.

"The manager was a huge part in my decision to come back.

"It was great to be coached by him last season, I enjoyed working with him and the plans for the new season are very exciting."

Manager Mike Jackson said: "James is a great character, he was here last year, and he gave us a great option in attack.

"The way he conducts himself in the dressing room, he is bubbly and enjoys his football.

"He will fit in brilliantly and he is proven goal scorer.

"He is of a high calibre and we are delighted to have him in on board.”
