TWO men have been arrested for suspected arson after a fire in Bognor.

Police were called to Priestley Way shortly after 12am yesterday to reports of a fire at a property.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue were also in attendance from Littlehampton and Bognor.

A 46-year-old woman, who was trapped in the upstairs of the property, had to be rescued though a window by firefighters using a ladder.

The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated for smoke inhalation but thankfully suffered no further injuries.

In a tweet West Sussex Fire and Rescue wrote: "Firefighters have rescued a woman from a 1st-floor flat fire in Priestley Way, Middleton.

"They used a short extension ladder. 2 appliances from @LittlehamptonFS & 1 from @BognorFire attended & the fire is now out. SECAmb & police in attendance. Time of call: 12.22am today (Sat)"

Sussex Police said in a statement: "Two 32-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and have been taken into custody for questioning.

"Officers are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this incident and the victim and suspects are believed to be known to each other."
