THE government's workplace safety watchdog has confirmed it has a "live" investigation ongoing into an "incident" at the multi-million pound Beacon Project in Hoylake.
Building works on the site, at the former Hoylake Urban District Council town hall and later Job Centre in the seaside village's Market Street, have been taking place for months.
The aim is to transform the building into a two-screen cinema complex, along with a five-star restaurant, artists' studios, and luxury residential apartments, and is being funded with the aid of a £3.64 million grant from the government's Community Coastal Fund.
Managers have kept interested parties up to date on developments on the build via social media, but there has been no mention of any workplace incident or the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation.
Yet it is understood work stopped temporarily in June when contractors were advised to stay at home.
A spokesperson for the HSE said: "While the HSE hasn't stopped work on this site, we are investigating an incident that happened in June.
"As this is a live investigation, we are unable to comment any further at this time."
A spokesman for Hylgar Properties told the Globe: "We are aware that an individual, who was not employed by Hylgar and was working on site for a third party contractor at the time, reported that he suffered an accidental injury in June.
"The matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive in the normal way and we are cooperating fully with their investigation, which is at an early stage."
