AN online chat service for young people needing advice and support has been launched.

The live chat is staffed by members of Wirral youth services, and can be accessed via an existing Wirral Council website.

The online service is available Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm, and sits alongside the council’s dedicated freephone helpline for young people which launched in May.

All chats are confidential, unless the discussion raises serious concerns about the welfare of a young person.

Cllr Tom Usher, cabinet member for children and families, said: "We know that the last few months have been difficult and confusing for many young people, and we wanted to make it easier for them to get in touch if they have concerns, questions or worries.

"I hope the new live chat makes them feel comfortable getting in touch if they need to – we have a friendly team ready to answer their questions, and no problem is too big or too small."

In addition to the helpline and live chat, Wirral's Youth Matters team is working with other local youth providers to expand the online activities available for young people – helping to reduce feelings of isolation over the summer holidays.
