A two year campaign to have a busy Wallasey road resurfaced has finally won the backing of the Town Hall.

The deteriorating condition of the road surface in Mosslands Drive, Wallasey had led to a promise by the council to act in 2018, only for the road to be removed from the programme of repairs just before work was due to begin.

The road was also omitted from the following year’s programme.

This led to a petition of local residents by local councillors, urging the council to think again.

Mosslands Drive serves almost 600 residents and is also the location for the Mosslands School, which has capacity for 1,600 students.

Now, after further requests, the Assistant Director for Highways has confirmed the road will be resurfaced during the current 2020/21 financial year.

Councillor Ian Lewis, who worked with residents to secure the investment said: “This is a busy road in Wallasey and simply patching the various pot holes was not good enough. It was clear from our doorstep petition of residents that people were fed up with the pot holes and wanted action.

“The number of vehicles has, in the past led to some traffic calming on the road, which has also been deteriorating.

“I’d like to thank the residents, and also the Cabinet Member, Cllr. Julie McManus, and the Highways Officers, for listening to our concerns and agreeing to act.

“With the extra money being given to the council, I hope Mosslands Drive will be one of many roads in Wallasey where residents will see improvements in the coming months and years.”

Hoseside Road, in Wallasey, which was also removed from the previous planned works will also be resurfaced this year.
