A 32-year-old man has appeared in court following a shooting at a Wirral McDonald’s drive-thru.

David Pugh, of Woolfall Crescent, Huyton was arrested on Saturday and charged the next day with attempted murder and possession of a firearm.

He appeared in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Monday and has been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on July 20.

A police investigation was launched after a man was shot as he sat in his car outside the McDonald’s restaurant in Welton Road on the Croft Retail Park, Bromborough, on the evening of Thursday, June 18.

A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with a leg injury. His condition is described as stable.

The incident caused the popular food outlet to close immediately as police cordoned off the premises and conducted forensic investigations, but once completed, the restaurant was able to reopen its drive-thru business operation the following day, supported by a visible police presence in operation across the retail park.

On Friday, Merseyside Police released CCTV images of a man that they wished to speak to in connection to the incident.

Four arrests were made on Saturday, before Mr Pugh was charged.

Det Insp Sabi Kaur, from the Merseyside Police firearms investigations team, said: “I am extremely grateful to the members of the public who have assisted in this case, those who have provided dashcam footage, statements and other information have been instrumental in this investigation.

“Gun crime will not be tolerated on the streets of Merseyside and we will do everything in our power to remove dangerous weapons from our streets.”
