The herringbone pattern is a classic design with a long and rich history stretching back over 2,000 years. The Romans realised that placing the bricks in a zigzag pattern, in the direction of the traffic, made the roads much more stable.

Well, when we say home, we mean royal palace, with one of the earliest examples of herringbone wood flooring found at Chateau de Fontainbleau, the royal residence of Francois 1, King of France, which was installed in 1539.
