No new coronvirus deaths have been recorded in Wirral hopsitals today, NHS England has confirmed.

It means that the number of the patients who have died in Wirral University Teaching Hospital with Covid-19 remains at 223.

Although weekend reporting has proven to usually be lower than week days, the news will be welcome given reports yesterday that the North West's R number is estimated to be 1.01 - the highest in the country.

A further 75 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,359.

Patients were aged between 43 and 100 years old and all had known underlying health conditions. Their families have been informed.

The North West accounted for 17 of today's recorded fatalities.
