THE Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has recorded one additional death of a patient who tested positive for coronavirus, according to the latest NHS England data.

Figures released this afternoon (May 28) show that, as of 5pm yesterday (May 25), the trust – which covers both the Chester and Ellesmere Port hospital sites – has now registered a total of 170 deaths.

The data shows that the death sadly occurred on May 26.

The Cheshire Hospital death toll now stands at 571 – an increase of four compared to five yesterday.

The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recorded the most deaths with 173, followed by the Countess (170), Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (117) and East Cheshire NHS Trust (111).

Across England, a further 185 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 26,234.

Patients were aged between 28 and 99 years-old. Five of the 185 patients were aged between 65 and 96, and had no known underlying health condition.

Today, 29 deaths are reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
