FIRE service chiefs have appealed for residents to not light fires or barbecues in public after two bin fires on Bournemouth seafront in 24 hours.
A crew from Springbourne were called to Undercliff Drive, Bournemouth at 8:47pm on Monday. Firefighters extinguished the bin fire using a hose reel jet.
Less than 24 hours later, another call was received about the same type of fire in the same place at 7:45pm. Both are believed to have been started by disposable barbecues.
Group manager Dave Graham from the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area said: “Whilst we understand that the dry weather will leave many wanting to go out and enjoy it, we cannot stress the importance of being fire-aware enough.
“This is especially important given that the wildfire danger is extreme at present, so we are asking the public to not, under any circumstances, light fires or BBQs anywhere other than their own back gardens.
"The risk of a fire getting out of control is too great in the current conditions.”
