A CONTROLLED burn has gone out of control in Anglesey.

Fire crews have spent more than three hours battling the fire near Mynydd Bodafon, Llanerchymedd on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 27.

One crew remains at the scene of the incident, with three crews being sent to site earlier this afternoon.

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 11.29am, with three appliances in attendance.

"It appears a a controlled burn had gone out of control affecting grassland where there are tyres and other combustible products.

"The area affected included a storage container involved in fire which has now been dealt with and is being ventilated as we scale down the incident."

The incident comes as North Wales Fire and Rescue Service push to remind residents to forego controlled burns during the pandemic, to spare resources and limit harmful smoke which could irritate airways.

Tim Owen, Arson Reduction Manager, explains:“We are urging the public to avoid being tempted to burn garden or household waste in these unprecedented times - what may have been intended to be just a small fire, or just a bit of fun, can quickly spread to become out of control.

“Smoke from such fires can cause breathing problems and worsen respiratory conditions such as asthma, adding to the risks caused by Covid-19.

"Please take responsibility for your actions – don’t fuel the fire. We are asking you to help us to reduce demand during this time.”
