THE dedication and hardwork of staff at a Wirral care home has been recognised with a BBC Northwest Tonight 'Everyday Hero award'.

Staff at Caldy Manor Care Home were nominated for their work in keeping residents, who are missing families because of lockdown restrictions, safe and entertained during this difficult time.

Staff have worked hard to continue to provide the usual high standards of care.

A spokesperson for the home said: "Activities have been more important than ever and all staff have joined in entertaining residents and making sure they get letters, cards and video calls from loved ones.

"Residents have celebrated VE Day, having our own street party and sing along.

"We followed the celebrations on television and joined in the Toast to the Nation and We'll meet again sing along.

"We have joined in community projects and residents have made cards and pictures for our local hospital and knitted rainbow brooches for our district nurses.

"There is always something going on and activity staff are always busy keeping residents and staff smiling.

"Staff at Caldy manor are amazing.

"The love and dedication to our residents is clear to see.

"We are one big family and families can see this in the smiles of our residents."

Hannah Roberts, acting general manager, said: "My staff deserve this recognition and it is a real boost to everyone to feel appreciated for the work they do every day of the year.

"Families know we love all our residents and care for them as if they were our own family.

"We are all looking forward to welcoming families back into our home as soon as we can safely do it".
