AN online music festival for a charity dedicated to helping in the prevention of suicide takes place this weekend.

Taking place on Saturday, from 4-10pm, The Martin Gallier Music Festival will be on Instagram and Facebook.

Featuring 25 musicians and DJs from both Merseyside and overseas it is organised by local football team, Wirral FC and musician Katie George.

The music will will span a range of genres from chilled acoustic sets, musical theatre, tribute acts, dance music and other acts.

Each performer will have a 20 minute set with the headline act scheduled for 9pm.

All proceeds will go to the Martin Gallier Project.

A spokesperson for the festival told the Globe: "This is an annual event, which usually takes the form of a charity football match between Wirral FC and Tranmere Rover Legends.

"Due to the current circumstances with the Coronavirus pandemic, the match has now changed to an online music festival.

"Each year the team choose a new charity to raise money for and this year, for very personal reasons, the players chose The Martin Gallier Project, after sadly losing a friend and member of their team, who took his own life after the charity football match in 2019."

Explaining the charity's role, he continued: "It supports all individuals and families when an attempt on a person's life is identified or concerns of suicidal ideas from somebody are raised.

"It aims to provide the families of vulnerable individuals with a much-needed skill set that will save lives in the North West.

"The charity offers accessible and cost effective, funded, applied suicide intervention skills training to all people above the age of 16.

"The training provides people with the skills to identify when someone is at risk and act to safeguard their immediate safety.

"The end goal is to ensure that a further attempt does not take place.
