Generous Globe readers have shown their support for Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) by raising over £25,000 in little over two weeks.

The WUTH Covid-19 support appeal was launched by the Globe on April 8, in conjunction with the Trust that runs Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals.

The fund was created to provide direct support for the wellbeing of patients and front-line workers fighting against coronavirus in Wirral NHS Hospitals.

And the response from Wirral residents has been typically superb, with a steady stream of donations made both online and directly to the WUTH Charity office.

Wirral Globe:

Victoria Burrows, Head of Fundraising at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, said: “We would like to thank the Wirral Globe, their readers and the whole community for the out-pouring of support we have received in recent weeks.

“The care and support our local community has given to our hospital and staff has been overwhelming and has been a huge boost to us all. If you would like to support or find out more about the appeal the Charity team would love to hear from you.”

As well as individual donations, people have been running there own fund-raising activities linked into the appeal.

Endurance runner and prolific-fundraiser John Hammond has managed to raise a staggering £3,875 so far, thanks to the backing of over 300 supporters.

Residents in Beacon Drive West Kirby have raised over £2,800 by doing a charity fun run on their own street.

Before the event, which took place last Sunday, organiser Joes Rees said: “Each runner is doing an allocated number of loops.

“We live on a steep road so it’s going to be tough going. We’ll be running 56 loops and the total ascent is over 1000 meters.”

Although no target was set, the fund will run for as long as the hospital continues to fight against the pandemic.

The Wirral Globe thanks its readers and the people of Wirral for their superb generosity and kindness during a time when more households have financial difficulties to contend with than normal.
