A MAN enjoying scenic views on his daily exercise outing was surprised to come across someone taking social distancing to another level - in the middle of the River Mersey.
Kevin Hughes was walking along the promenade by Woodside Ferry terminal when he spotted a seal bobbing up and down in front of him.
Fortunately armed with a good quality camera, Mr Hughes from Birkenhead captured the marine mammal, who was all too happy to pose for his telephoto lens.
With the coronavirus lockdown significantly reducing public activity in the borough, less pollution and calmer waters have seemingly brought more wildlife into the river.
Mr Hughes said that he had chosen to take his one permitted exercise activity of the day on the promenade because he had heard that there was a porpoise hanging about in the river.
But although he didn’t spot the marine life subject he intended to, he wasn’t left short-changed after witnessing the brave seal catch a fish and devour it in front of him in an exhibition of hunting prowess.
Mr Hughes also managed to capture a video of the seal in action.
